At 9pm on Sunday night I felt a very small 'gush' but wasn't sure if
it was my water breaking or not, since it wasn't a big gush and I didn't
have a slow trickle. So I walked around the house for a bit and waited,
and sure enough, several more small gushes came. As we were getting
ready to leave I bent down to put my socks on (or attempt to!), and I
got the big gush finally. At that point I was confident this was the
real thing! We got to L&D around 11:30pm and were admitted by
midnight. They hooked me up and told me to rest, they would start
pitocin around 5am if I needed it. By 3am I woke up to some tolerable
contractions, those progressed very slowly on their own. I didn't bother
timing them or anything since I was already in the hospital! At 5am
they checked me, I was still only 2cm (about what I came in at), so they
started pitocin. Those contractions started quickly and progressively
started getting stronger & stronger! By around 9 or 9:30am I told my
husband, "hit the call button!" I wanted something for the pain. My
contractions did not radiate around my belly or feel them in my back at
all, I felt them all in my pelvis area were you would have period
cramps, but of course they were much worse. I was only able to sit in
the chair and breath and rock through them, by the time I requested meds
I was shaking/shivering so bad I couldn't make it stop!
I got the epidural about 20 minutes later, didn't hurt at all. The hardest part was sitting still for so long through contractions! The epi took effect right away, and I felt warm and calm all over... it was wonderful! I got really sleepy, so my husband and I went back to sleep. They woke me up to check me at 11:00am, and I was 10cm and ready to go! I was in disbelief, that it happened that quickly! They did want me to wait another 30 minutes to let Wyatt come down more on his own to decrease the time I would spend pushing. So, I tried to relax and went back to sleep until 11:30am. They got me all set up to push, and at 12:47pm Wyatt Alexander was born! He had a beautiful head of dark hair (just like me!), weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and was 18.5 inches long. My husband did great, he cut the cord, and he cried when he saw Wyatt for the first time! We are so in love with our little guy!
