Koen William was born on November 20th at 9:59 pm. Since my BP was so high I had to be induced. The OB and my Midwife broke my water at 9:00am but I only had a few contractions so they decided to start me on the drip at 11:00am. I was in active labour at 4:00 and that's when all the fun started! Contractions became close and strong, and by the time I was 5 cm I was looking for some drugs. My Midwife talked me out of getting the epidural and trying phentenol, so that's what we did. It worked wonderful for the first dose and actually let me rest between contractions. They were only a minute apart but felt like longer because of the drugs. The next few doses didn't really seem to work but I guess it was just the contractions were stronger. I used the gas to help me focus and breathe through the contractions (btw-I dont think there are really narcotics in there!! haha). I asked for an epidural again, was checked and I was at 8 cm!!! WooHoo!! The next two cm, although I dilated quickly, were the most uncomfortable and exhausting. My Midwife told me that by the time they could get down with the Epi that our baby would be here. So, I got into bed, bared down, which is the greatest feeling after you have to "breathe" through contractions for so long. I pushed for an hour!! and finally out came our beautiful baby boy, Koen William! My Husband took Koen out of me and laid him on my chest. The skin to skin is the most amazing thing! By the way, when you get the baby out, its like you push out all the pain...its so great. I had stitches and I didn't even feel that!
My Husband was soo wonderful and I could not have done it without him. He was there for every contraction, and even got in the jacuzzi tub with me while I was in labour!
